I met Kim almost a year ago when she assisted at my cousins wedding, she has assisted me a couple of times since! Kim is a fantastic up-and-coming photographer in the Lydenburg and Lowveld area. When I met Kim at firts, I thought that she was a little scared of me – knowing myself, it’s almost always the case, plus Kim speaks really softly – almost like she is scared to talk, but I soon realized she is just a little shy, once you get to know her she gets a little more talkative and sometimes even cracks a joke, but she still manages to come across as shy, I cannot even imagine that she has an angry voice!

Kim & Johan have been married for 9 years and decided it was time to do a little photo shoot – I love the way they look at each other, they are still so in love! For the photoshoot Kim got  a little dressed up, got her hair & make-up done and we were off to shoot. It is so important to spoil yourself for the photo shoot day. I see it all too many times that people pitch up for the shoot and really didn’t put any effort in (no make-up, hair untidy and even sometimes some bad hair regrowth), worst of all is when I actually go onto their facebook page and look through their photos of when they are out on the town – they put in more effort! I’m always wondering then, if they think that I will airbrush them to look better – please know that I do not do that! 50% of what you look like in the photo, is how you prep for your shoot! the other 50% of it is up to me to get you from the right angle, make your personality stand out and a little post processing!

Tips for prepping for your shoot:

• You should look fashionable for your shoot. It is heavily outdated to bring the whole family in jeans & white t-shirts!!! Plus, go have a look at your ancestors old family photos, they looked so good on every photo, they really went all out. A family shoot is not just a family shoot, you want to show your future generations how you lived…and wearing a wind-braker is not really showing off ;) I know we are in an era where jeans & t-shirts are the norm, and we get it all to often that people ask us where we are going when we put on something nice – break free from that bad habit – and if someone asks you where you are going, say; “Nowhere, I jut want to look nice for myself!”
• Dress to your individual style. If you are not sure, ask your photographer for suggestions.
• Make-up girls!!!! Just eyeliner and mascara won’t do the trick, these cameras that photographers use, pick up every single blemish and if you don’t have any colour in your face (like a little blush & lip stick) you might end up looking a little bit like a zombie ;) if you like the natural look, make-up so it looks natural!
